In the past few years, I’ve had a lot of blogs. Blogs for school, blogs for coaching, blogs for other people. However, with all of that, I’ve never kept one myself. Not that I don’t have much to say, I just didn’t feel the need to make it public. However, that is all starting to change.

I’ve been reading a lot lately about Digital Natives – children who have been born into the digital world. These are your Xbox, iPod, laptop, remote control kids. The ones who haven’t seen record players, don’t really understand VCRs, and can’t imagine life without a TV. They are growing up assuming that they have an Internet connection, and are surprised to know that life went on without one. I’m pretty savvy, but I’m no native.

This, however, is not an excuse. As an educator, I need to do my best to immigrate into this digital world. First, I got going with Blogger. That’s how I started FlatisFast – my coaching blog for the St. George’s Sailing Team. From there, I joined LinkedIn and FaceBook – which I thought would just a massive time-sucks but has actually been extremely useful.

So, given all of that, I’ve decided to start blogging. Maybe some one will even start reading!
