For the next few weeks, French and Spanish students will be working on two separate projects. We are all going to need to work together to help each other pull this off successfully.
French Project – Dictée
Mrs. Cardullo has prepared several dictées for you to complete. The first one will be due at the end of the second class this week (8B on Wednesday and 8C on Thursday). You will complete three dictées before Wednesday, November 10th. Here’s how this is going to work.
- When you first receive your dictée, quietly read over it a few times. Make sure that you can read it from start to finish without stopping.
- Complete a few practice reads into GarageBand so that you can hear yourself. Make sure that you have correct pronunciation and inflection.
- Create a good recording of yourself reading the entire dictée from start to finish into GarageBand and then export the final version into the French Dictation folder inside of 2011.
How to work with GarageBand
- Open GarageBand
- Create a new Podcast file and call it Name-Dictee1 (ex: Susie-Dictee1) into your GarageBand folder. Do not forget the number 1 in your file name. In the end, you will have 3 separate files for your 3 dictations.
- Click in either the Male or Female track, and start recording. You may record as many times as you like within the given time period; however, you may NOT edit your tracks.
- When you are done, you need to export the file out. To do this, go to Share>Export Podcast to Disk. You want AAC Encoder and Spoken Podcast chosen as your options. (See Image Below For Details)
- Make sure that the exported file goes into the French Dictation folder inside of 2011.
Spanish Project
Mrs. Ashby has assigned you a Spanish speaking country. Your job is to create a print advertising campaign to boost tourism and encourage visitors. You will do this by designing 4 print advertisements (like ones that would appear in a magazine) and the pitching your campaign to the class. These ads should represent the best of your country and also work together to communicate a central idea or theme. For example, take a look at the Idaho Adventures in Living campaign.
The final project is due on Wednesday, November 10th. However, there are some interim due dates as well. We will complete this project in a few phases.
Phase 1 – Research, Due on Wednesday (10/20) for 8B and Thursday (10/21) for 8C
To get started, you will create a Top 10 list of attractions in your country, and write the information on the provided worksheet. You may ONLY use the following sites. To take your notes, we are going to ask that you not be logged into your computer.
- Use Lonely Planet and Answers as starting points. Then, go to Google and search for your country’s official tourism site.
- HINT: search for “Chile toursim” or “Argentina tourism” and it will be one of the first sites to pop up.
- Take 15 minutes to go through the websites and see what you find. Then, type in your 8-10 headline names. You may use the computer to get the spelling correct. Log off of your computer and write information in the bulleted areas.
This information will be turned in to Mrs. Ashby. She will provide feedback to help you choose the 4 specific items that you are going to incorporate into your advertising campaign.
Phase 2 – Gather Resources, Due on Wednesday (10/27) for 8B and Thursday (10/28) for 8C
You will have this week to polish off your research and to gather your images. At the end of the week, you will submit a concept board. This will be a single piece of paper with your 4 key images, a statement of your central idea, and your 4 tag lines. We will discuss this as we get closer to the due date. This should be turned into the Spanish Advertisement folder inside of 2011 and named Name-Concept (ex: Cindy-Concept).
Phase 3 – Final Production, Due Wednesday (11/10) for everyone
Using Pages, you will lay out your final advertisements and print them. Each add needs to contain the following elements:
- Imagery – a central image to illustrate what you are advertising.
- Tag line – a brief statement to get the attention of your audience
- Copy – a small, short, paragraph to provide additional details
- Call to Action – a single line telling your audience what they should do after viewing the ad (go to a website, call a phone number, book a ticket, etc)
- Image Credit – because we are NOT posting these to the web, you do not need to worry about copyright infringement. However, you do need to give a tiny photo credit that includes something like Photo Credit: John Doe.
You will also need to turn in the final Pages file to the Spanish Advertisement folder inside of 2011. Itshould be named Name-Country-Ad (ex: Billy-CostaRica-Ad). You will have 4 pages in this single file with one ad per page. Do NOT use a poster template. You should come up with your own design.
