Now that we have taken the raw data out of our database and compiled the information, the next challenge is to analyze it. In groups, you are going to look at the data from four different perspectives. On Tuesday, May 17th, both classes will present their findings.
Each challenge asks the teams to compare the class portfolio to various market indexes as defined by Morning Star. Use this link to find your information.
Challenge #1 – Diversity by Capitalization
Look at diversity of the class portfolio by Capitalization and compare it to what Morning Star lists as the 13 week ROI.

Challenge #2 – Diversity by Sector
Look at diversity of the class portfolio by sector and compare it to what Morning Star lists as the 13 week ROI. Know that Morning Star does not use the terms Information, Manufacturing, and Services. You will have to figure out which holdings are Cyclical, Defensive, and Sensitive.

Challenge #3 – Performance versus the Market Indexes
Compare the class portfolio return against the Dow, Nasdaq, Russell 2000, S&P 500, and the S&P Mid Cap 400. How did the class do in 13 weeks versus the various markets?

Look at diversity of the class portfolio by sector, as well as by the 12 sub-sectors, and compare it to what Morning Star lists as the 13 week ROI. Know that Morning Star does not use the terms Information, Manufacturing, and Services. You will have to figure out which holdings are Cyclical, Defensive, and Sensitive, as well as the sub sector for each holding.
